Mark was born and raised in Jacksonville, Texas in the 60s and 70s. He graduated high school in 1980 and was in Navy boot camp three weeks later. Mark retired as a Navy Hospital Corpsman, having served June 1980 through August 2001. He is a Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Warfare Specialist, and achieved the honor and privilege of becoming an Independent Duty Corpsman (IDC).
After retiring, he pursued his lifelong passion for the writing lifestyle. Having written short stories and novellas from when he was only ten years old, Mark began learning the craft of feature film and television screenwriting. His first feature film, DELIRIUM (which he also directed), was released by York Entertainment in 2007. The economic collapse of 2008 sent Mark’s fledgling career into a tailspin as Venture Capitalists and Angel Investors went to ground and independent film funding came to a grinding halt. He finally got another horror thriller, EARLY GRAVE, which he wrote and co-produced released by Fenix Pictures in 2013. In 2014, Mark sold a psychological thriller spec screenplay, RESTITUTION, which got released on major steeaming channels in October 2024.
In 2014, Mark was diagnosed with Stage 4 throat cancer. Mark underwent multiple surgeries, high-dose radiation treatments along with adjunctive chemotherapy. With his cancer in remission, Mark faces permanent physical and mental disabilities caused by the cancer, and by the treatments that killed his cancer. Recovery is ongoing as Mark adjusts to what doctors call “his new normal”.
During this time, Mark began wrote what would become his critically acclaimed debut novel, NOCTURNAL. He has pursued writing novels ever since. Mark is also the author of BLOOD RED MOON, JUST BEFORE DAWN, and his latest, ALPHA MALE.
Mark is married to retired professional photographer Fiona Young. They live in a small town in Northwestern Washington.
